Engineering Mentoring for Internship Excellence (EMIX)

Overview

The Engineering Mentoring for Internship Excellence (Engineering MIX!) program is a collaborative effort of the Penn State College of Engineering Career Resources and Employer Relations Office and the Office of Engineering Diversity. It was created in an effort to provide additional opportunities to corporate partners in hiring underrepresented and women engineering students. This internship development program is designed to prepare 20 (or more) underrepresented and women engineering student interns for the science and technology industry.

At the end of this training, all students will be prepared to enter assigned internships June-August and will receive official internship or cooperative education credit for this effort. This process will be implemented in the following phases: Student Recruitment, Academic and Professional Development, Field Trip to sponsoring corporate site, Internship Assignment. Sponsoring corporations will provide information for the selection process, welcome students and provide a tour of the corporate facility, and will pay a competitive wage to summer interns. Each corporation may choose to fund the number of students desired, preferably three or more, as we have found that students are more successful when they are positioned to form group support systems. Students will be invited to apply as positions become available.
